Reviews about Baby Jim's Snack Bar
- 5 / 5By Ben GentryIts very rare you find an old school snack bar, its even rarer when one can get a loaded burger, fry's, bottled water, drink ,and chili dog.....for 10 dollars and 7 cents. I have lived in Virginia for all 19 years of my life. a good 60 percent of my time is spent out with my family or girlfriend exploring the state. this was not my first visit to Culpeper, nor will it be my last. but to find such a place like baby jims where the food is cheaper than McDonalds. Yet somehow better is remarkable. this being an old lunch counter, with regulars. I know that because everyone else who entered seemed to know someone behind the counter. I may be old school in that I don't like loud restaurants nor do I approve of people on there phones in lines of any kind. there are signs with bold red letters that say "no loud talking, no profanity" on both doors there are paper signs that ask people to take there cell phone conversation's outside. its like a filter so that only decent people come in. lastly and what's its really all about is what you pay for V.S. what you get. a 1.75 for a chili dog im not expecting it to taste as though the food gods came down and blessed it.....but it came pretty close as for my girlfriend she got a fully loaded burger for 2.75 she said it was great and filling, but she wasn't waddling away. over all if you like good cheap old school comfort food this is a wonderful place to be.February 10, 2017

- 5 / 5By Ben VickersBaby Jim's Snack Bar is not McDonalds. You are not going to get your food immediately after you order it. You are going to have to wait. You wait for the staff to carefully prepare your food. When I visited, there were also only 3 people working behind the counter. But let me just tell you, the wait was WORTH IT. The fries were perfectly crisp. The burger was nice and juicy. And the chocolate shake I got was a little piece of Heaven in a foam cup. If you are going to visit this fine establishment, please respect the time and effort the staff puts into your meal. Respect their rules of no cell phones inside or loud talking. And enjoy your meal.June 29, 2016
- 3 / 5By Brandon C. Sites - Critic of Modern Day HorrorI went to Baby Jim's excitedly, since it was my first time coming here in over a decade. I loved this place when I was in my teens & early 20's. So how did my return visit measure up?
I have to say I was disappointed and it seems as though the quality of the food has gone downhill. I ordered 3 burgers, an order of fries and two sweet teas. The total was $10.66.
The burgers were bad. They were over dressed, but the burger patty itself just tasted like a cheap frozen patty. I know with most fast food places, it comes in frozen in a box (McDonald's, Burger King), but these ones were below par. It didn't taste fresh. I noticed that the patties had been sitting on the grill when I ordered.
The fries were ok, nothing special. They were priced at a $1.69. For the portion size, I think they should be priced between $1.19-$1.39.
Tea was ok. I like mine a little bit on the sweeter side like the McDonald's sweet tea. I thought the tea could use a little more sugar.
As I said, I paid $10.66 for everything. If I had went to McDonald's, I would have paid about $6.29 plus tax. So I don't think I got my money's worth at Baby Jim's. I think they are over priced, especially for the quality of food served at lunch.
I also need to complain about the store hours! They're horrible. 430AM-3PM?!? Why no dinner service?!? If it was me, I would extend the hours till at least 7PM so that I can get some of the dinner crowd and thus make more money. The store hours are inconvenient.
Also, another thing, Culpeper is trying to turn itself into a tourist destination. Most tourists are going to visit on either Saturday or Sunday in my opinion. Well, how can tourist check out this place if it is closed on Sunday? The store hours haven't kept up with the times. Things have changed and Baby Jim's needs to change with them.
In no way should they change that sign outside. I love it. I love the retro feel of Baby Jim's, just update the hours, improve the quality of food if you are going to charge prices that are higher then your competition down the street - McDonald's.
PS: I was afraid to complain about my disappointment, because of all the signs posted all over the place telling customers how to behave.June 29, 2016 - 3 / 5By Brandon FinchamIts okay just a little highJune 27, 2016
